Dr. Sarah Oppelt is a biochemist whose professional research focuses on metabolic regulation. Her personal life focuses on eating all the tacos and running up mountains.

I help people optimize their diet and fitness habits to reach their weight loss, muscle gain, or performance goals faster.

How I got here: I completed my Ph.D. in Molecular, Cell Biology, and Biochemistry in 2016 at Boston University where my research focused on the consequences of sugar metabolism in different organs, including the liver and brain. I continued to research metabolism and health in my post-doc through Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital, leading a project focused on the effects of sugar and fat in the diet on inflammation and heart disease. Currently, my lab focuses on how metabolic dysregulation activates the immune system. A list of research publications can be found here.

How I help people: I am passionate about helping people understand how this research applies to their lives. Most people will probably never read the scientific studies I publish but every single person will wake up, need to eat some food, and want to feel not terrible in their bodies along the way. I use my expertise as a biochemist to craft personalized plans for people based on their level of exercise and their specific fitness goals.

Who I am: I have also run several half-marathons, completed a 200 hr Barre teacher certification, go to most of the yoga classes I sign up for, and backpack with my Minolta 201 film camera because it’s important to pack light. I have a standardized rating system to compare brunch spots and taco trucks. I like rearranging things to get the most out of them - a messy fridge, a car trunk to fit all the weekend gear, and a diet plan to complement specific lifestyles. :)
